Statement from YWCA Greater Cleveland

After learning of yesterday’s Grand Jury decision in Ferguson, and the recent killing of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, YWCA Greater Cleveland is deeply saddened by the loss of these young black lives. We send our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of these young men. We understand that tragedies such as these challenge the relationships between community members and local authorities, whether they be policy makers or law enforcement. Because of our awareness, YWCA Greater Cleveland is engaged in facilitating conversations for change around these issues, but we cannot do it alone. Community support at all levels – corporate, nonprofit, governmental, grassroots – is needed.  Our goal is to serve, with you, as a catalyst, driving the action and, ultimately, systems change.

We ask that you stand with us by participating in conversations with all stakeholders around race relations in the Greater Cleveland community. Visit our website for more information on YWCA Greater Cleveland’s programs and get involved in supporting our continued work of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
